Remembering 9/11

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that forever changed our world.

It was like any other normal September day in New York City. Nice weather and clear skies as residents from the Tri-State poured into lower Manhattan for work. Just as I assume was happening with residents from the D.C. metro area on their way to the Pentagon to start their workday. What would happen next was unimaginable, unthinkable, and unforgiveable.

I remember September 10, 2001 like it was yesterday. I had finished lunch with a friend in City Hall Park, I recall the Twin Towers shining in the cloudless sky, a site I had seen thousands of times. A mere 20 hours later I found myself, along with many others, on Veterans Memorial Pier in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn looking directly onto the burning towers.

I remember hearing the blaring sound of FDNY, NYPD, and EMT sirens. I remember being both saddened and angered by what was transpiring in the city I have called home my entire life.

2,977 innocent fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends and co-workers were taken from us that day. It was the darkest day our nation had ever seen, a day I knew would change America forever.

Though we suffered tremendous losses that day, New Yorker’s proved they were what we always knew they were—resilient, caring and capable of more than we could ever imagine. The stories of heroism that day never ceases to amaze me, and I was never prouder to be a New Yorker than I was in the days following the attacks.

To all 9/11 was 20 years ago, but to many 9/11 was yesterday, tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and every day after.

We vowed to “Never Forget,” but it saddens me to say we have. We now villainize the very men and women of the NYPD who selflessly ran into the burning towers to save lives, we carelessly stroll by the very firehouses that once housed the men and women who remained in WTC 1, knowing WTC 2 had collapsed, but refused to evacuate because they still had a mission inside.

Not a day has gone by that I haven’t, if even only for a second, thought about September 11. Not a day will go by where I won’t think about September 11.

I, like all of you reading this, will never forget what I felt in my heart that fateful day. I will never forget the sacrifice our heroes made, I will never forget that when staring in the face of danger, no one responds like a New Yorker.

I do not take the phrase “Never Forget” lightly, I do not take all those we lost for granted, and I hold on dearly to what I felt in the days following—proud to be a New Yorker, proud to be an American.

Chairman Kassar discusses the new Lt. Governor, the federal spending plan and the disaster in Afghanistan.

New Lt. Governor Wants to Defund the Police

Governor Hochul has selected her Lt. Governor, and it’s much of the same. Not surprising from the woman who turned a blind eye towards Andrew Cuomo’s misdeeds for years.

“I support the movement to defund the police” current State Senator and incoming Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin said in January of this year. 2021 has seen a 7.1% increase in shooting incidents while murders are on pace to surpass the 2020 total.

Senator Benjamin has been on the wrong side of every issue plaguing our city from criminal bail reform, to defunding the police. He has taken every far left political position possible and his selection as Lt. Governor is indicative of the type of Governing we can expect from Governor Hochul.

Speaking of Governor Hochul, her admission that 12,000 more New Yorkers have perished from Covid-19 than previously reported — bringing the current grim tally to more than 55,000 — begs the question: Why is she only telling us now?

Governor Hochul served as New York’s Lt. Governor from 2015 until yesterday, and, as the state’s second in command, she clearly had to know — or should have known — the true Covid death toll in the state. So why did she stay silent as Governor Cuomo hid these numbers? Did her pledge to be transparent begin only yesterday?

GOP Votes no on 3.5 Trillion Spending Plan

Our eight Conservative Party endorsed members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted no on Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi’s latest tax payer funded wish list.

The New York eight joined 204 of their GOP colleagues, falling just short of killing the bill as no Democrats joined with Republicans. More evidence to support how crucial the 2022 election cycle is for Republicans.

The bill includes $100 billion for amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, doubles the size of the IRS, taking more of your money to pay for their operations, and increases the national debt to $45 trillion by the year 2031.

Party leaders say they hope to finish work on a spending bill by Oct. 1, leaving just weeks to address serious concerns among moderates over the cost of Biden’s spending plans.

Disaster in Afghanistan

On behalf of the Conservative Party, I extend our deepest condolences to the families of the 13 service members lost in yesterday’s suicide bombing attacks. We remain eternally grateful for our men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

The truth of the matter is this, this entire calamity in Afghanistan was completely avoidable. Joe Biden’s plan and execution was inept, hastily done, and ignored the advice of many military leaders and experts.

Under Biden, America feels less and less like a superpower every day. Under Biden we are openly mocked and laughed at on the world stage, this after only 7 months of his administration.

We have gone from eradicating ISIS and putting fear in terrorists everywhere, to taking orders from the Taliban on what they will and will not allow Americans to do.

In the face of immense pressure, our President hides within the confines of the White House while the American people receive more updates from foreign government than their own Commander-In-Chief.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio said it best, “This morning the President of the United States should inform the Taliban that we will be in Afghanistan until everyone we & our allies plan to evacuate is accounted for & out of the country. If they cooperate it should be swift & orderly.

If they get in the way they will be killed.”

Chairman Kassar discusses: the Biden Afghanistan Debacle, Inflation and the Assembly About Face

Biden Administration Withdrawal Failure

The withdrawal became a retreat, the retreat became a rout, the rout became a defeat. The Biden Administration either had no plan, or a horribly bad plan, to withdraw our troops, allies and citizens from Afghanistan.

Joe Biden has now, more than ever, proven he is a first-class foreign relations disaster as President. As the Taliban overthrew a government and gained control of Afghanistan, Joe Biden was no where to be found. He spent the first 72 hours in hiding as mid-level press flacks addressed the nation on the biggest international news story in a decade.

When Biden did speak, he said he had “no regrets” on any of the decisions he made. Chilling words from a President of the United States which still has thousands of its citizens trapped in Afghanistan and a State Department informing them they cannot ensure safe passage to Karzai International airport.

Senior military and State Department officials have claimed they advised President Biden that imminent danger for American citizens and the Afghanistan people was ahead, but he ignored the intel. He ignored his Joint Chiefs, his Generals and his top Middle East experts.

It should not be forgotten that while American lives are at stake, Joe Biden blamed Donald Trump who is now a private citizen living in Florida.

Joe Biden owns this disaster. No one else.

Inflation

A little inflation is healthy. It greases the economic engine and leads to growth. Enter Joe Biden and the inflation we have been experiencing at an unhealthy level and getting worse by the day.

According to AAA the national gas price sits at an average of $3.17. Here in New York, the average gallon of gas is $3.22 and in California it sits at a shocking $4.40.

The cost of living doesn’t end there. We have seen it at the supermarket and soon we will see it at our banks in the form of mortgages and other types of loans.

As inflation far exceeds wage gains, economists warn we are sitting on an inflation time bomb.

U.S. wages grew at a 4% year-over-year pace in July, but trailed the 5.4% annual increase in inflation suggesting that while nominal wages are rising, real wages are falling. This does nothing but leave working families in the dust.

“Call it the ‘Biden pay cut,’” said Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of the Job Creators Network, a conservative U.S. advocacy group. “Rapid inflation and declining real wages are the direct result of the Biden administration’s historic spending that is overheating the economy and creating disincentives to work.”

Assembly Does About Face

As a result of an outcry from the GOP members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, Assembly Democrats will not get away with sweeping their investigation of Andrew Cuomo under the rug.

It is believed that Governor Cuomo wanted protection from impeachment if he agreed to resign.  The Democrats were happy to oblige but quitting his day job as Governor doesn’t erase his criminal and civil liabilities.

The investigation will now be completed, and a report issued. This will go a long way to ensuring that Andrew Cuomo is held accountable for his actions. No one is above the law.

Resigning simply took him off the taxpayer payroll. Justice will only come about through a full airing of the many wrongs he and his senior staff made over the years.

It is shameful that the Democratic Assembly attempted to do him one last favor.

Statement from Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar on The Fall of Afghanistan

 August 16, 2021

“Words can’t capture the images coming out of Kabul. President Joe Biden’s planned withdrawal turned into a panicked rout, and now, once again, as in Vietnam, we are seeing desperate U.S. allies hanging from departing airplanes. These are scenes that will live in infamy.

“The abject planning failure of the Biden Administration will be studied and discussed for decades to come, but for now we must focus on getting U.S. allies out of Afghanistan safely and in the most orderly fashion possible.

“The American public needs to hear from their President now about how he plans to accomplish this.”

Chairman Kassar’s weekly wrap up discusses Cuomo’s upcoming resignation, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul and Cayuga County’s salute to Greg Rigby.

Governor Cuomo Resigns in Disgrace

On Tuesday Andrew Cuomo gave one of the most disingenuous resignation speeches in human memory, but at least he resigned.

We trust that his stepping down will do nothing to slow the myriad investigations into his misbehaviors, including covering up nursing home death data; profiting $5.1 million from his obfuscation of those deaths; using state-paid employees to write his tome, and allegations of both physical and verbal sexual abuse of at least 11 women.

Mr. Cuomo’s behavior has shown the need for far greater transparency in New York State government, and so many questions for him still need to be answered.

We continue to call on the Assembly to proceed with impeachment proceedings, along with the Albany County Sheriff Department’s investigation into the criminal complaints levied against Governor Cuomo. He must be held accountable for his actions.

Incoming Governor Kathy Hochul

The Conservative Party wishes incoming Governor Kathleen Hochul well in her transition to New York’s top executive office. New York has faced much adversity over the last 18 months, and it is time for leaders to put the needs of the entire state over themselves.

However, we will continue holding her to account for allowing Mr. Cuomo’s gross, well-known behavior to go on for the past seven years she served as his Lt. Governor. Often times, the Lt. Governor verbalized how proud she was to work alongside Governor Cuomo. With the information we now have, it is unlikely that she and her staff could have been so blind to the many misdeeds occurring in the Cuomo administration.

We cannot afford another clubhouse politician as New York’s Chief Executive. We need and deserve transparency from a Governor the public can respect and puts constituents first.

Cayuga County Conservative Party

The Cayuga County Conservative Party held their annual clambake honoring long time party leader Greg Rigby. The event was a great success, and I was beyond pleased to see the Cayuga organization functioning so well.

I want to congratulate Chairman David Pappert and his committee on a great afternoon. The more than 200 people in attendance was a clear indicator of the good work he and his committee are doing.

Greg Rigby and his wife have re-located to South Carolina and we wish them nothing but the best. Greg has been a dear friend and leader within the Conservative Party holding positions as both Cayuga County Chairman and State Party Vice Chairman. He will be greatly missed here in New York State.

STATEMENT FROM NEW YORK STATE CONSERVATIVE PARTY CHAIRMAN GERARD KASSAR

“Lt. Governor Hochul Should Be Included in All Key State Matters to Ensure Continuity of Government”

Brooklyn, NY – “With Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s tenure in Albany likely to come to an abrupt end, it’s critically important that Lt. Gov. Kathleen Hochul be fully briefed to take the mantle of state government at a moment’s notice. Based on Gov. Cuomo’s empty schedules, it appears as though these crucially important briefings aren’t occurring. This is a complex state, and we see that as a mistake, as well as a disservice to a Lt. Governor who deserves better.

“Lt. Governor Hochul must also be prepared to explain how Gov. Cuomo’s toxic work environment, especially toward women, was allowed to fester during the seven-plus years she served as Mr. Cuomo’s partner in government. It’s impossible to believe that Ms. Hochul was unaware of this dynamic in the Executive Office. This is a natural line of inquiry, and we expect members of the news media to pursue it.”

Chairman Kassar’s weekly wrap-up discusses the AG’s Report, The Vaccination Card Mandate and Biden’s super-spreader border crisis

Cuomo found to have committed State and Federal crimes

On Tuesday, the New York attorney general’s office announced officially what we have all known for a long time—Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women.

Attorney General Letitia James and investigators found that Cuomo harassed both current and former state employees, as well as a host of women outside of state government, engaging in “unwelcome and nonconsensual touching, making “suggestive” sexual comments and creating a “hostile environment” for women.

Since the findings of the scathing report was released Conservatives, Republicans, and Democrats alike have called on Governor Cuomo to resign. As of this morning, 41 out of the 62 Democrat County chairs in New York have also called for the disgraced Governors resignation, echoing the sentiments of both the Democratic majority leaders in the Senate, Assembly and even President Joe Biden.

The Governor has remained mostly silent and out of sight since the release of the AG report, choosing instead to huddle with his closest advisors and showing no intentions of resigning.

However, it would appear the Governor won’t be the Governor much longer as the Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Carl Heastie, vowed to move impeachment proceedings along expeditiously.

The clock is soon to strike midnight on the Cuomo family and his enablers.

Vaccination Card Mandate

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced earlier this week that proof of vaccination will be required for indoor dining, gyms, and social venues starting on August 16th.

The mandate has been met with swift opposition as lawsuits have already been filed and many more are to follow.

The decision by the mayor will have a substantial impact in the minority communities as nearly 70% of African Americans and 58% of Latinos citywide are not fully vaccinated This policy does nothing but place additional burdens on businesses still struggling to recover from shutdowns and creates tension between different communities based on their vaccination status.

Under no circumstance should anyone be forced to disclose their medical history or records in order to simply dine in a restaurant or visit a gym.

 Biden’s Super Spreader Border

Come August 16th it will be easier to migrate to the United States illegally than it will be to dine inside a New York City restaurant.

More illegal immigrants have crossed the southern border into the United States than the population of some major American cities including: Boston, Washington, D.C, San Francisco, Seattle and Denver.

While the CDC and White House continue to push mask mandates and vaccination passports, COVID-19 positive immigrants are entering the country in record numbers – and bussed across the United States — further complicating our battle with the virus and making it evidently clear they have no control over the border, nor do they truly care about the safety and health of the American people.

Our southern border is a humanitarian and public health crisis that is growing worse by the day. The Biden administration is responsible for the largest super spreader event and refuses to act by closing the border in the interest of national health concerns.

Pay close attention as your government continues to mandate how you live your lives due to issues caused by the same Government that does little to protect the health and safety of its citizens.

Chairman Kassar weekly wrap up discusses DOJ Dropping Nursing Home Investigation, House Passes Spending Bill and the Universal Absentee Lawsuit.

DOJ Drops Nursing Home Investigation

The Department of Justice has decided to drop their investigation into whether the civil rights of residents in New York’s government-run nursing homes were violated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his decision to demand nursing homes admit COVID-19 positive patients.

Governor Cuomo is still under investigation by the FBI and the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney’s office for the cover up of the total number of residents killed by the virus in nursing homes.

“New Yorkers deserve answers and accountability. I was the first member of Congress to call for an investigation into Governor Cuomo’s corrupt criminal coverup and I will continue to fight for the families who lost loved ones because of the cruelty and corruption of our Governor,” Congresswoman Elise Stefanik said.

The decision to drop the investigation by the Biden Administration while the FBI, and U.S. Attorney’s office continue their probe is a clear favor to Cuomo who has been an ally of Biden since day 1. It is unfortunate President Biden’s DOJ was willing to trade the lives of thousands of New Yorkers to protect the Governor who sent countless individuals to their deaths then lied –and profited — about it.

The motives are clearly political. We have all seen first-hand the carnage caused by the Governors order and the admission by his own staff of their subsequent cover up and abuse of power.  Justice for the victims and their families are now in the hands of the FBI and Brooklyn U.S. Attorney’s office as well as the Legislature.

House Passes Spending Bill

The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed a spending bill which notably funds the Green New Deal, provides money to communist China, tramples on the 2ND Amendment, and has no Hyde Amendment protections.

The Democratic-led House’s bill would eliminate a 45-year-old stipulation that prohibits taxpayer money from funding abortions. The bill passed with a 219-208 vote.

Fortunately, the bill is unlikely to pass the Senate with at least one Democrat, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, voicing her intentions to vote no when the bill comes to a vote on the Senate floor.

All eight Conservative Party endorsed members of the New York delegation voted no on the bill.

 Universal Absentee Lawsuit

The State Supreme Court in Niagara County will hear our arguments on August 26th for a summary judgement to strike a statue that made universal absentee ballots available for this year’s elections. While they are hearing our arguments, they will hear arguments by the defendants, which include the Governor and State Legislature who wish to have our lawsuit dismisses.

The complaint seeks to overturn an unconstitutional action by the State Legislature S.8015-D/A.10833 signed into law by Governor Cuomo on August 20th, 2020 and now Chapter 139 of the laws of 2020. This Chapter amends Election Law Section 8-400 in clear violation of Article II, Section 2 of the State Constitution. This section establishes specific circumstances in which a registered voter can obtain an absentee ballot.

The Conservative Party maintains that this Chapter makes a permanent change in the State Constitution and as such requires approval of the electorate by placing such amendment on the November ballot. The Legislature and Governor by adopting said piece of legislation have circumvented that process.

Statement from New York State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar on  Biden’s DOJ Ignoring Outrageous Cuomo Covid $chemes

Brooklyn, NY — “Thousands of senior citizens perished in New York nursing homes from Covid-19 under Governor Andrew Cuomo’s ill-advised policies; Cuomo furtively covered up the deaths — at the very same time he was negotiating a $5.1 million book deal for himself, with his book largely written and researched by paid government employees.

“With all that, how is it possible that President Biden’s Department of Justice has decided that there’s nothing to see here?

“Could this have anything to do with Biden and Cuomo’s long political friendship? Could it have something to do with Cuomo being the first governor in America to endorse Biden for president?

“The New York State Conservative Party finds itself asking these very questions, because, frankly, no other explanation is tenable. This decision stinks to high heaven, and the families of those lost are right to be outraged. What a gross miscarriage of federal justice.”

Chairman Kassar’s weekly wrap up discusses Buffalo’s India Walton, the Ben & Jerry’s controversy and the NYS Senate GOP’s call for bail reform analysis.

Buffalo Mayoral Hopeful Has Questionable Background

The Buffalo News reported on Tuesday that the home of India Walton was the subject of a police investigation in 2018 after numerous complaints of a drug operation surfaced.

A police report obtained by The Buffalo News showed that officers investigated the complaints in the fall of 2018. Police sources said the suspect from Walton’s home was Anson Whitted, who served more than 12 years in state prison for selling cocaine, assault and possession of a weapon.

Walton doesn’t deny Whitted’s presence in the home acknowledging he was a frequent guest who occasionally stayed there.

The owner of the home whom Walton was renting from demanded she move out of the house after receiving numerous complaints about constant visitors consistent with drug trade activities.

The self-proclaimed Democratic socialist scored a stunning upset over longtime incumbent Buffalo Mayor Myron Brown. Walton, an outspoken advocate for defunding the police, is endorsed and supported heavily by the far left Working Families Party and Democratic Socialists of America Party.

Ben & Jerry’s Boycott

Ben & Jerry’s announced on Monday that it would stop selling ice cream in the occupied Palestinian territory, the decision has sparked a wave of criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, and leading to mass boycotts that include long time vendors ending contracts with the ice cream company and stores pulling the product off their shelves.

“#Benandjerrys has now decided they know more about Jerusalem than the Israelis. If Ben & Jerry’s wants to have a meltdown & boycott Israel, OK is ready to respond. Oklahoma has an anti-boycott of Israel law in place,” @SenatorLankford (R-OK) Twitted Wednesday.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and State Comptroller Glenn Hegar echoed a similar sentiment, threatening to add the company and its parent, Unilever, to a list of organizations that boycott Israel, making it ineligible for investments from the state’s pension fund.

While Ben & Jerry’s no longer feel comfortable doing business with Israel, they continue to feel comfortable doing business with China. I suspect Ben & Jerry’s will soon find their sales to have cooled off following what will be a significant boycott of the brand all over the world.

Senate GOP Calls for bail reform analysis

New York State Senate Republicans this week called on officials to conduct a review of whether the changes to New York’s bail laws are linked to the rise in violent crime throughout the state over the last few months.

Senate Minority Leader Robert Ortt sent a letter to the Office of Court Administration and the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, asking if the sharp rise in shootings in New York City in 2020 compared to that of previous years have any correlation with the states soft on crime bail reform legislation.

“The recent surge in shootings and violent crime all across the state have confirmed our worst fears — so called criminal justice ‘reforms’ passed under One-Party Rule are a danger to all New Yorkers,” Ortt said. “Shootings are up. Hate crimes are up. While the Governor’s recently declared state of emergency finally acknowledges what the Republican Conference has stated all along, that violence in our cities is a serious problem, it ignores the very policies and rhetoric he has embraced in the past two years: bail reform, discovery reform and a war on our police. It’s time for the Governor to acknowledge the consequences of his actions, and that begins by examining his own state data — not ignoring or whitewashing it,” he continued.

In 2021, murders have increased by more than 3% in New York City while shooting incidents have increased by 22%. Startling numbers when you consider we are just now entering the time of year in which crime spikes.
