PUT THE BRAKES ON DRIVER’S LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

A New York State Driver’s License is a portal to a myriad of privileges; it is the basic standard for identification within New York State.  Certain buildings entry requires an ID, certain travel requires an ID and of course driving requires a license.  In order to obtain a NYS Driver’s License, you must produce:  Proof of identity, such as valid license, birth certificate or passport, with your full first, middle (if applicable) and last name. This name, as it appears on your proof of identity, will be displayed on your card as required by federal law. Proof of Social Security Number or Social Security Number ineligibility.

Legislation (S.1747 – Sepulveda/A.3675 – Crespo) is pending in the NYS Legislature to provide a NYS driver’s license to undocumented immigrants.  Should this Bill become law, the Commissioner of DMV shall promulgate regulations to establish acceptable proof of age and identity, thereby lowering the current acceptable proofs of identity.

Citizenship in these United States has its privileges.  Those who come here illegally do not have the right to dilute and demand the same rights granted to citizens.
