State Democrats open door to fixing awful ‘no-bail’ reforms — but will they do enough? The bigger question is will they bring Speaker Heastie on board? We cannot emphasize enough, cashless bail is only part of the problem with this law; the changes to “discovery” are by far a bigger problem, in that it is an almost impossible hurdle to overcome. Most of the coverage is on cashless bail, which may be resolved by giving judges all their discretion back, however, if the new “discovery” rules are not adjusted, it is only a matter of time before tragedy strikes.
